Day March 21
CELEBRATING CULTURAL DIVERSITY
Day is held every year on 21 March to coincide with the United
Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination. The continuing message that ‘everyone
belongs’ encourages people to participate in their community,
respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense
of belonging for everyone. Harmony Day is our nations
day to celebrate Australia’s diversity – a day of cultural respect
for everyone who calls Australia home. It’s about community
participation, inclusiveness and respect—a time to reflect on where
Australia has come from, while also recognising the traditional
owners of this land. Cultural diversity is in Australia’s national
interest, building our productivity and enriching our lives.
Harmony Day provides an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the
benefits and potential that cultural diversity brings.
