What's New: Projects: "Our Youth, Our Future"

Our Youth, Our Future is an Australian Government funded, Work for the Dole Program. It is aimed at providing an opportunity for people interested in the care and education of young children to gain work experience as a volunteer after undertaking a training program.

Program Details:

  • An information session and training program in preparation for working with children.
  • A volunteer placement will be organised in a community based child care service.
  • Hours of attendance are negotiated and will vary between 12 and 15 hours per week for 26 weeks.
  • Satisfactory and current Safety Screening is an essential requirement. This applies to any person working with young children in child care services and schools.
  • Protective clothing is provided.

Training Includes:

  • Visiting a child care service;
  • Interacting effectively with children;
  • Supporting the development of children;
  • Caring for babies and children;
  • Occupational health and safety;
  • Resource development to support work with children.

Volunteer work experience may include:

  • Assisting with the care of children;
  • Helping children with their daily routines;
  • Food preparation;
  • Assisting with the supervision of children's play;
  • Setting up play environments for children;
  • Supporting play and participating in activities;
  • Potential opportunities to gain casual, part time or full time employment;
  • Potential opportunity to begin training towards a formal qualification.
