The Specialist Equipment Pool is funded by the Australian Government under the Inclusion and Professional Support Program (IPSP).
The Professional Support Co-ordinator (PSCTas) either directly manages or subcontracts to a Professional Support Service Provider (PSSP) to coordinate the Specialist Equipment Pool. This Pool comprises a range of equipment and resources which are available to eligible child care services (excluding in home care) to assist the inclusion of a child that has demonstrated an ongoing need for a high level of support in the child care environment.
Such equipment is obtained through either purchase or loan from another State or Territory PSC upon a recommendation from a specialist therapist indicating this equipment will support the inclusion of the child. Specialist professionals including Inclusion Support Facilitators (ISF) provide training to child care service practitioners in the use of the equipment.
A PSSP is engaged by PSCTas to maintain, store and distribute the equipment.
Child care services can make a request for Bicultural Support through the respective regional Inclusion Support Agency or the Indigenous Professional
Support Unit.
