Children's Programs: Frederick Street Child Centre

Lady Gowrie Tasmania assumed operation of this occasional care program during 2004 at the request of the Launceston District Office of the Education Department. This program was an extension of the school program which included Kindergarten and Preparatory on the Frederick Street School site.

At the end of 2004, the Department relocated the school program from the site which resulted in Lady Gowrie Tasmania continuing and extending the occasional care program as well as establishing northern based resource centre / library and training facility.

The Frederick Street site is a heritage listed building, owned by the Launceston City Council, and with the support of the Launceston Kindergarten Association, Lady Gowrie Tasmania has access to the facility for the provision of its services.

This centre provides an alternative to long day care for families who may need short term care for children as well as the opportunity for a transitional program for children in the year prior to formal school.

Programs

The centre offers regular or casual occasional care (Monday to Thursday inclusive) for children from 3 to 7 years of age during school terms only. The Centre is licensed by the Tasmanian Department of Education for 20 children.

Program Planning

A qualified early childhood teacher and experianced child care professional plan and implement a specialist pre-school program that meets the individual and group needs of children.

Program Planning is informed by the Department of Education's Essential Learning Framework and focuses on the five learning areas identified by this document:

• Social Responsibility
• World Futures

Meals

Parents are asked to provide meals and snacks which meets the recommended dietary guidelines by recognised authorities.

Fees and Accounts

Fees are charged on a sessional basis and are payable daily, weekly or fortnightly. EFTPOS, Bpay and Credit Card facilities are available.

Monday to Thursday 9am - 3pm

Please note: Minimum care available is 2 hours

The centre is closed on gazetted public holidays.
