Children's Programs: Battery Point For over 60 years Lady Gowrie Tasmania has been operating a child centre at the original site in Battery Point. The centre was named after Lady Zara Gowrie, the wife of the Governor-general in the 1930's. Early in 1999 the Battery Point building underwent major renovations and upgrade and now provides a state of the art facility which offers the optimum physical environment for children. The centre provides Long Day Care, Kindergarten, as well as Before and After Kinder Care. Programs The centre offers full-time and regular part time care for children from Birth to 7 years of age for 51 weeks of the year. The Centre is licensed by the Tasmanian Department of Education for 112 children and registered with the National Childcare Accreditation Council. Program Planning The staff meet regularly to plan programs that meet the high quality indicators of the Quality Improvement and Accreditation System (QIAS). Program Planning is informed by the Department of Education's Essential Learning Framework and focuses on the five learning areas identified in this document:
Primary Care Giving is a feature of the programs. The main goal of primary caregiving is to foster secure attachments with children and to build strong partnerships with parents. Meals Lunch, morning and afternoon tea are provided. The cost of these meals is included in the fees. The centre has attained 'Start Right Eat Right' accreditation which means children are offered meals that meet the recommended dietary guidelines by recognised authorities. Fees and Accounts Fees are charged on a sessional, daily or weekly basis and are payable daily, weekly or fortnightly. EFTPOS, Bpay and Credit Card facilities are available. Hours of Operation Long Day Care: 8am - 6pm (Monday to Friday) Sessional Care: 8am - 1pm or 1pm - 6pm (Monday to Friday) Kindergarten: 9am - 3pm Tuesday and Thursdays Before and After Kinder Care: 8am - 9am and 3pm - 6pm during school terms. Full day care for Kindergarten children during vacation periods. The centre is closed between Christmas and the New Year and on gazetted public holidays. |
