The Gowrie Story Lady Gowrie Child Centres are located in Hobart, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Melbourne and Sydney. They were established by the Commonwealth Government in the late 1930's and early 1940's to demonstrate exemplary benchmarks of quality in early childhood practice. The Lady Gowrie name honours the wife of a former Governor General Lady Zara Gowrie in recognition of her particular interest in programs for young children. The first Lady Gowrie Child Centre in Hobart was established at Battery Point in July, 1940 to provide a range of child and family services. Since then parents have found support, encouragement and friendship as members of the Gowrie family. Today, Lady Gowrie Tasmania operates numerous Child Care and Education programs as well as a range of Support Services for children, families and early childhood professionals throughout the state. With a long history, Lady Gowrie Tasmania is highly regarded as a leader in the provision of quality services for children, families and early childhood professionals and continually strives to ensure services provided reflect the ethose of the organisation.
Governance Lady Gowrie Tasmania is a community based organisation, managed by a voluntary Board of Directors. The board deterimine the strategic direction for the organisation. Board Directors are appointed according to the criteria determined in the constitution. Current Members
Board Director's details are available at each Lady Gowrie site. The Annual General Meeting is conducted in November each year. As well as presenting the organisations annual report a guest speaker is invited to present on a topic of interest. Members of the broader community are cordially invited to attend. |
