Lady Gowrie Tasmania assumed operation of this occasional education and care program during 2004 at the request of the Launceston District Office of the Department of Education. This program was an extension of the school program which included Kindergarten and Preparatory on the Frederick Street School site.
At the end of 2004, the Department relocated the school program from the site which resulted in Lady Gowrie Tasmania continuing and extending the occasional education and care program as well as establishing a northern based resource centre / library and meeting/training room facility.
The Frederick Street site is a heritage listed building, owned by the Launceston City Council, and with the support of the Launceston Kindergarten Association, Lady Gowrie Tasmania has access to the facility for the provision of its services. It is situated just minutes from the Launceston city centre.
This Centre provides an alternative to long day care for families who may need short term education and care for children as well as the opportunity for a transitional program for children in the year prior to formal school. An early childhood teacher and additional qualified educator provide the education and care program for three to five year olds.

The Centre is closed between Christmas and New Years, on gazetted public holidays and during school holiday periods.
