Lady Gowrie South Hobart Education and Care Centre
This centre was established in 2005 at the former South Hobart Primary School Kindergarten site. Supported by the Department of Education and the South Hobart Primary School community, this facility underwent major modifications to meet the mandatory requirements for child care provision. Lady Gowrie Tasmania is committed to working in partnership with the South Hobart School community to provide a quality program and seamless service delivery for education and care. An after-school care program also operates on the School site supports this approach.
The Centre is within a short walking distance to the Hobart City Centre but maintains a country atmosphere with expansive views of Mt Wellington and surrounding bushland.
The indoor environment encompasses many different learning areas including an art studio where children have the opportunity to experiment and be creative with a variety of mediums.
With the after school care program on site, families have a seamless approach to the provision of care and education in this community.
Operational details
The Centre offers full-time and regular part-time education and care for children from two to five years of age, for 51 weeks of the year. The hours are detailed below:
- Long Day Care: 8.00 – 6.00pm (Monday to Friday)
- Sessional Care: 8.00 – 1.00pm or 1.00pm – 6.00pm (Monday to Friday)
- After School (for kinder age children up until age 5) 3.00pm – 6.00pm
The Centre is closed between Christmas and the New Year and on gazetted public holidays.
Snacks
Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea and late Afternoon Tea are provided, with the cost included in the fee structure.
Families provide a lunch box for their child.
Specialist Programs
Committed to the health and well being of young children, the Centre provides a specialist physical activity program for three to five years olds. The “Get Moving” program promotes the importance of daily physical activity while enhancing the child’s overall development and learning.
