Lady Gowrie University South Education and Care Centre
This Centre was originally established on the University campus to provide child care services for University of Tasmania staff and students as well as the broader community.
At the end of 2007 the University of Tasmania approached Lady Gowrie Tasmania with the view to transfer the management and operation of the two University Centres (Hobart and Launceston) through a partnership agreement. This came to fruition with Lady Gowrie Tasmania commencing the operation from March 2008.
The Centre is situated on the Hobart campus of the University of Tasmania, adjacent to the sports fields, near Sandy Bay Road. Access is via Grace Street with an area allocated for short term parking to support delivery and collection of children.
Located only minutes from the heart of Sandy Bay and a further few minutes from the city, the centre is convenient for both staff and students on campus but also for families working in the city precinct.
The purpose built centre and expansive garden playground areas support young children’s development and learning. The main building provides education and care for children from birth to three years of age, with the Cottage providing education and care programs for children three to five years of age.

The Centre offers full-time and regular part -time education and care for children from birth to five years of age, for 51 weeks of the year. The hours are detailed below:
The Centre is closed between Christmas and the New Year and on gazetted public holidays.
Meals/Snacks
Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea are provided, with the cost included in the fee structure.
Specialist Programs
Committed to the health and well being of young children, the Centre provides a specialist physical activity program for three to five years olds. The “Get Moving” program promotes the importance of daily physical activity while enhancing the child’s overall development and learning.
