Lady Gowrie University North Education and Care Centre
This Centre was originally established on the University campus to provide child care services for University of Tasmania staff and students as well as the broader community.
At the end of 2007 the University of Tasmania approached Lady Gowrie Tasmania with the view to transfer the management and operation of the two University Child Care Centres (Launceston and Hobart) through a partnership agreement. This came to fruition with Lady Gowrie Tasmania managing the operation from March 2008.
The Centre is situated on the Launceston campus of the University of Tasmania at Newnham. It is conveniently located at the entrance of the campus with an area allocated for short term parking to support delivery and collection of children. The purpose built centre is surrounded by expansive lawns and garden areas which provide a picturesque outlook for young children.
To compliment the long day education and care centre, there are after school care and vacation care programs for children, aged six to twelve years of age, during school terms and vacation periods respectively on the Newnham site. Alternatively, an after school care program is also offered from the Mowbray Primary School.
Operational details
The Centre offers full-time and regular part- time education and care for children from birth to five years of age, for 51 weeks of the year. The hours are detailed below:
The Centre is closed between Christmas and the New Year and on gazetted public holidays.
Meals/Snacks
Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late afternoon tea are provided, with the cost included in the fee structure.
